Mutt Strutt 10k 2010

On October 23rd, I ran in the SPCA Mutt Strutt 10K in Bakersfield. This is where James' family lives, so I was able to have a cheering section. It made the race a lot more exciting. Thanks for coming out!!

James loves (or acts like he does) to be my photographer and document everything...

Pre-race pictures. I usually run with my friend Kimmy, but this time her mom, Sandy joined us.

On you marks, get set, go....

My cheering section (minus 2 nieces)

I saw these next 2 pictures and just had to post them. They make me chuckle every time I see them.

Nearing the finish line.

The time is off by 10 minutes. We finished about a minute behind our last race. We could have finished 2 or 3 minutes sooner if it wasn't for my 2 asthma attacks around mile 4 and 5 (more on that later).

James and I, obviously.

Sandy won first place in her division!

I have had a nagging cough for about 3 months now. Kaiser kept blowing it off and just prescribing me cough syrup. I finally demanded to talk to a doctor. After many breathing tests (and a few more next week) they determined that I have exercise induced asthma. Joy :( I now have an inhaler that I use every 4 hours. Once we got to Bakersfield, I started coughing a lot. And then during the race I had my first real asthma attacks. I have never been so scared in my life, but luckily they only lasted about 30 seconds and then I was able to keep going.

I love the picture under Rhyen's of Megan. The look on her face is awesome!

I'm sorry about your asthma. My mother really struggled with that. She had her cough for 5 years before it was diagnosed. So many in this valley get to deal with it, unfortunately.

I'm so impressed with you and Kimmy. Did you know her before you were in this ward?
