Recipe, anyone?

I know most of you that read my blog are amazing cooks or at least know your way around the kitchen, so I need your help with a recipe. James and I absolutely love fried rice, but I can't find a recipe that we like. I have searched everywhere and we have tried every recipe under the sun. We don't like fried rice seasoned with just soy sauce (too blah), we don't like Chinese 5-spice (too much like cinnamon), and garlic powder never tastes right. Does anyone have a recipe that uses an ingredient other than these??

1Fried Rice
Recipe courtesy Food Network Kitchens

Prep Time: 15 min Inactive Prep Time: hr min Cook Time: 12 min Level:
Easy Serves:
4 to 6 servings
Ingredients
1/3 cup plain vegetable oil, like soy, corn, or peanut
1/3 pound black forest ham, diced, or about 2 cups cooked, cubed or shredded meat
1 onion, diced
Salt and pepper
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped
3 whole scallions, thinly sliced on the bias, white and green separated
1 1/3 cups (6 ounces) medley frozen corn, peas, carrots
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
4 cups cold cooked long-grain rice, white or jasmine rice, grains separated

Heat a large heavy-bottomed nonstick skillet over high heat. When hot add 1 tablespoon of the oil. Add the ham and cook stirring occasionally until lightly browned. Add the onions
to the pan, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until onion is fragrant Add the garlic,
ginger, and scallion whites and stir-fry until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the frozen vegetables. Cook until just defrosted but still crisp. Transfer contents of the skillet to a large bowl.

Return the pan to the heat and add 2 more tablespoons of oil. Add the eggs and season with salt and pepper.
Stir the eggs constantly and cook until almost set but still moist, then transfer egg to the bowl. Break the
eggs up with a wooden spoon or spatula.

Return the pan to the heat and add the remaining oil. Add the rice to the pan and use a spoon to break up any
clumps. Season with salt and pepper and stir-fry the rice to coat evenly with oil. Stop stirring, and then let
the rice cook undisturbed until its gets slightly crispy, about 2 minutes. Stir the rice again, breaking up
any new clumps. Add the scallion greens. Transfer to the bowl. Stir all the ingredients together with the
rice, taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper, if necessary. Serve.

Okay so I did a search in my google reader for fried rice and I came up with this:

http://goodthingscatered.blogspot.com/2008/07/thai-style-chicken-fried-rice.html

It does call for soy sauce but it also calls for Tai chili pepper sauce so it's not your typical fried rice recipe.

Let us know when you find a good one because I would like to make it myself.

Btw- I really like the new layout!

I use sesame oil, and I think that helps the flavor A LOT! I also dump in some Honey Teryaki Sauce at the end. Of course, Tastefully Simple stopped selling the HTS, so I'll have to find something new when I run out. You might find something in the marinade section.

I have a recipe that I kind of came up with years ago that my family really likes. It's a mixture of a couple of different recipes. I'll email it to you.

I'm going to send you mine! I love it and it's not too fancy and no spices except a little soy at the end. Give me a few days to email it- we're leaving for out of town.

Those recipe offers sound really good (being that I know the cooks :) I use to make my own friend rice, now I just buy it frozen at Trader Joes and add more egg and vegetables to it.
