Walking Challenge
I have been walking at night with 5 or 6 women since about march. I have really enjoyed the exercise and the socializing. Now that it is finally cooling down, I have decided to challenge myself more and increase my walking. I looked on the Internet for a national or local walking group, but I couldn't find anything that offered more of a challenge. I finally found a website with a program from 2005. It was to walk a million steps in 8 weeks. I decided that I would set this as my new goal. I figured out that it will be about 10 miles a day, which is about double what I have been walking. I usually take Echo on small walks in the morning, so I figure I will increase the distance. I know Echo won't mind at all!! I will also continue walking at night with my friends, but instead of driving to meet up with them, I will walk from my house to the meeting spot, which should add an extra mile to the walk.
I would like to start a local walking program for women. One of my friends, who lives in Alaska, walks with her work. They walk the number of steps it takes to walk the orient express or climb certain mountain ranges. I think it would be interesting to see how long it would take to reach these goals. I am trying to figure out the logistics of a walking program and whether I want to do it for a charity.
