James' Birthday Surprise

This year I was able to surprise James with a 4 day trip to Las Vegas for his birthday. I told him he had to take last weekend off, but I wouldn't tell him where he was going. Somehow he got the idea in his head that he was going alone so he never came close to guessing where he was flying to. On thursday morning, I gave him an envelope with clues. I had him reenact reading the clues so I could take a picture. I told him he had to act surprised and this is what I got. (you will have to excuse my pictures. My brand new camera isn't working too well).

As soon as he read the clues, he knew exactly where he was going (I was hoping it would take him a little longer to figure it out). He said he was hoping we were going to Vegas.

Here are the clues:

1. Someone will pick you up at 6pm on thursday.
Our friends Alex and Stacey were nice enough to take us to the airport and bring us home. Thanks guys!!

2. You will get on an airplane to travel less than 900 miles.
We have an awesome airline that flies out of Fresno straight to Vegas for cheap. We would much rather fly for 50 minutes than drive for 6 hours!!

3. You will be staying in a French castle named after a sabre.
We stayed at Excalibur. This is where we stayed the first time we went there together and loved it.

4. You will be traveling to one place, but will see the world.

This is James in Egypt (Luxor)

James at Ellis Island (New York New York)

James deep under the Ocean (Mandalay Bay)

James next to the Eiffel Tower (Paris)

and James in Hawaii. We loved seeing ABC stores around. It reminded us of our trip to Hawaii a few months ago. Along Waikiki, there is an ABC store literally on every street corner.

There were many other countries we visited, but we couldn't find the right angle to include James and something that will stand out from that country.

5. You will not be going alone!
This made James very happy. What's a trip to Vegas if you are going alone! It actually worked out nice for us. All last week James was out of town. He came home on wednesday night. I washed his laundry and repacked his stuff so we could leave thursday. Then once we got home we transferred everything into a smaller suitcase so he could leave again. It was so nice to see each other for 4 solid days.

Our favorite part about Vegas is the shows. We saw an amazing show called "O". It is a must see if you are ever in Vegas. It's a little pricey, but I would definetly pay it again.

We spent most of our time there walking up and down the strip. Here are some random photos:

Down the strip

The volcano at the Mirage

We went to the Botanical Gardens inside the Bellagio. It was beautiful!

James' has a new moto for his life, so when we saw this we had to take a picture of it. We even looked for a shirt that said, "Be Cool" on it, but no luck!

We always have to make our way to the coke factory for a ice cold bottled coke. They have this thing there where you can sample 16 different sodas from around the world. We wanted to try it the last time we were in Vegas, but we were too full to drink any. So this trip we planned it in between breakfast and lunch. Most of the sodas were pretty good, one was HORRIBLE!

If you look closely, you can see my name minus the A. This is the closest I have ever come to seeing my name somewhere else.

We spent our last day there in the Bodies exhibit. I wasn't allowed to take pictures so I don't have anything to show for it. This exhibit takes actually human bodies and takes the skin off so you can see the muscles, organs, veins, and arteries. It was fascinating!

Thanks for sharing your trip pictures. My favorite one . . . the ABC store of course. It made me homesick for Hawaii. The second best . . . the soda tasting. Glad you had fun. Who's birthday is next??????

They have a coke factory in Atlanta as well. I went there when I was a little kid and REALLY loved all the different drinks. I plus they had a thing that shot it through the air... kind of cool. In the summer they have flights out of oxnard to vegas, I am hoping I get to go sometime!
